The year of the marquee

Date: 2 June 2013
Organised by: Carole and Anne
Weather: gorgeous sun!

What an amazing day we had! Bravo to the sunshine and to the Bellenden residents! So many people contributed to making the day one to remember. From face painters, bunting contributors and cake bakers to all who brought the most fantastic food. It was an amazing array of diverse and amazing food and so much of it! A truly fantastic effort from all.

Apart from the lunch we had a cake baking competition ...

There are so many thanks to be said ...

  • to the residents of Bellenden Road and area for turning out in such great support.
  • to the shops that were so generous with prizes for our competitions:

The Begging Bowl, Bias, Petitou, The Victoria Inn, Anderson's, Ganapati, Paul's Custom Cycles, The General Store, Cafe Viva, Review Bookshop, EOS Dance School, The Crossroads Cafe, The Brick Brewery, and GJM Property, for the marquee.

Thank you to the Scouts of 3rd Camberwell group who served teas all day and opened their doors for us and to the Southwark Fire Brigade for coming along.

A very, very big thank you to all the musicians that came and played for us - to Sly and Reggie who, along with playing, supplied the sound system for the day; to John McClean and his band, Ras Keith and band, Corrine who DJ'd for us for much of the afternoon and to the South London Samba band who joined us impromptu at the end of the day ...we look forward to seeing more of them in the future.

And last but not least, many thanks to Sumalee Murphy of Sumalee Thai Carving for once again producing the most amazing watermelon carving for the day.

Many, many thanks

The Bellenden Big Lunch team
